How to write a internship resume
- State the internship you want and when you're available: "Seeking a 6-month Data Analytics internship from January 2027".
- List 4–6 relevant courses ("Database Systems, Statistics, Machine Learning") — they act as keywords when you lack job titles.
- Show a project for every key skill in the posting, with a link to GitHub, Behance or a live demo.
- Count campus roles as experience: organising a fest for 3,000 attendees is real project management.
- Online certifications (Google, AWS, Coursera, NPTEL) count — list the most relevant two or three.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Leaving out your expected graduation date — recruiters filter on it.
- Writing "no experience" — reframe projects and activities as experience instead.
- Generic objectives copied from the internet.
- Unprofessional email addresses — create firstname.lastname@ for applications.

Internship resume FAQ
How do I write an internship resume with no experience?
+
Lead with education and relevant coursework, then projects, campus leadership and volunteering. Each entry should show what you did and a result — that is the experience an internship recruiter looks for.
Should I include my expected graduation date?
+
Yes. Write it as "Expected June 2028". Internship programmes are planned around graduation years, and recruiters filter on it.
What skills should a student put on an internship resume?
+
The tools and methods named in the internship posting that you can demonstrate — for example Excel, Python, Canva, SQL or Figma — plus one or two relevant soft skills shown through your activities.
Can I add online courses to my internship resume?
+
Yes. Recognised certificates from Google, AWS, Microsoft, Coursera or NPTEL show initiative. List the two or three most relevant to the role, with the year.
Should a student resume include a photo?
+
Not for applications in India's corporate sector, the US, UK or Canada unless explicitly requested. Photos add no value for ATS and can introduce bias.
